Michelle Henning is a sculptor, bringing nearly 20 years of various art media experience to her craft. Her work is in private collections in the U.S. and in northern Europe.

In keeping with strong New England traditions of fine craftsmanship, each piece is carefully shaped, decorated with unique hand-blended stains and under-glazes, and then fired to set the colors into the porcelain. Glazing follows, and a second firing to bring the porcelain to its maturity. Afterwards, every piece is lustered. Lustering is a painstaking process whereby a very thin layer of metal is applied to the surface of the glazed porcelain. A third firing bonds the metal onto the porcelain, resulting in a sparkling sheen. The luster complements the rich colors embedded in the porcelain, adding subtle rainbows of color to each piece. Each piece is personally signed with Michelle's trademark logo.

In Michelle's own words:
"A few years ago, during a walk on the beach, my attention was arrested by masses of pale blue mussel shells. The life they had protected had long since departed. They were washed and battered by the sea leaving only the core of their being. Pure and simple. Shape and color. I bent down to study the delicate pearly blue interior of a sea-washed shell and felt compelled to find a way to echo the essence of that strong coloring that, when moved, possessed the character of a rainbow. I began with the ocean-sky glaze on a simple porcelain shape, reflecting my impression of those luminescent shells. In the years since that walk, other dazzling natural forms and colors have inspired me to create new designs."
