Jewelry artist Deb Panish is the owner and designer of Funky Pretty Jewelry. She started making beaded jewelry on the floor of her room around the age of 12, in 1969. In 1984 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts, concentrating on jewelry, ceramics and sculpture. Other schools critical to her development as an artist were Massachusetts College of Art, Maine College of Art and the University of Southern Maine and Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she studied Art Therapy. She worked in the field as a therapist for a few years but missed the process of creating. She then decided to dive into jewelry design full time and has been busy ever since.

Exploring the relationships that colors have to each other inspires Deb's work. The forms are purposefully designed to be simple, pure shapes that allow the colors to be seen and felt. Interestingly enough, Deb strives to have the beads that she works with not appear to be beads at all but interesting "things" that work together to create form.

Deb now lives with her husband, two children, a dog, a cat and two rabbits on the rocky coast of Maine.

The Seascapes line of Funky Pretty Jewelry is made of glass that has been tumbled to a frosted finish so that it "holds" rather than reflects the light, giving each piece a wondrous glow. The sheet glass is cut into tiles and tumbled for 36 - 48 hours, which gives them a soft beach glass quality. All clasps, earwires and spiral shapes are hand-wrought by the artist in sterling silver.

Deb's newest line features lustrous mother of pearl in a wonderful array of custom colors. Her simple designs and inspiring color combinations create jewelry that's light weight and fun to wear.
